Today, I will be sharing on how to make rounded or curvy edges to your photo instead of having those ordinary pointed or sharp ones.
Step 01. Fire up Photoshop and open an image that you want to work on. I will be using this nice photo I downloaded from this site . It's a very large file so I cropped this to 640 x 480 px at 72 pixels/inch resolution.
Step 02. Next, make a new document. Press Ctrl + N and make the width = 800 px and height = 600 px, Resolution = 72 per inch and a transparent Fill.
Step 03. In order for us to work our image with ease, let's add a colored background. Go to your tool box, change the foreground color to #006666, grab the Paint Bucket tool and fill your canvas with it.
Step 04. After that, drag the image using using the Move Tool (V) to the new document. Hold the Shift Key while dragging the image to position it on the center of the canvas.
Step 05. Notice that in the Layers palette, you have Layer 1 (your colored background) and Layer 2 (your image). Make sure that Layer 2 is selected because we will be working on that. Next, go to the bottom of the Layers Palette and click Add layer mask button and add vector mask button.
Step 06. Go to the Toolbox (or press "U") and select the Rounded Rectangle Tool. In the Options Bar make sure the "Paths" icon is being selected and enter a value on the Radius box. I choose 50 px.
Step 07. Go to your image area and from the top left corner of the photo drag the shape tool to the bottom right of the image.
Step 07. To deselect path (in the red arrow), just simply click the vector mask thumbnail once.
Step 08. Now, go to the bottom of the Layers Palette and hit Add a layer style button and select Stroke... and apply these settings (you can have your own settings if you wish).
Here's the image.
Then, you can also apply Drop Shadow.
Here's the end product.
You can try experimenting your background layer by adding some textures or using another photo as your background image. Here's mine with Filter > Texture > Texturizer...
