Lomo Photography Effect

Today's post is about this very easy, quick and simple step by step Photoshop tutorial that will guide you in applying lomo photography effect or making your photos look like being taken using a lomo camera.

Here's how:

01.  First, download this image from this site and open this in Photoshop.

02.  Next, we need to duplicate this layer so press Ctrl+J.

03.  Then, we need to apply vignette to our image, so, go to Filter > Distort > Lens Correction...  (as you know vignette effect is where the edges, especially the corners, of an image are darker than the center). When the Lens Correction Menu pops up it shows your image with some grids on it (see image below),  uncheck the Show Grid box to have a clearer view of your image.

04.  In the Vignette pull down the slider the amount to -100 and midpoint to 75.

05.  Now, go to the Channels palette (Windows > Channels if you don't have it yet) and select the Red channel and click the eye icon of RGB so that you can see a colored image.

Then, go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and pull the Contrast slider to around 50.

06.  After that, select the Green channel and go back to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and pull the Contrast slider to 50.

So, this will be the product of a simple lomo effect on our image.

But you can enhance more of this by adjusting the contrast of the Blue channel.   Just select the Blue channel, then, go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast, adjust the Contrast slider.  You can also make some variations like what I have just made.  Just choose which one you like best.

Sample A.   Blue Channel at -50 Contrast.

Sample B.  Blue Channel at -25 Contrast.

Sample C.  Blue Channel at Contrast 50.

That's it.  Hope you like it.
